What Is Your Soul Trying to Tell You?
We often talk about burnout as a work issue. Too many deadlines. Too many demands. Too many clients. Not enough time. But beneath the to-do list is a chronic drain that comes from living out of sync with yourself. It’s when you give much more than you have and betray your own flow to meet someone else’s. And when we are out of alignment for too long, our energy system, body, and brain waves a huge white flag in the hope you heed the call.
The Energetics of Burnout
This collapse of life force, prāṇa, chi, whatever name you want to give it - is your unique spark. It becomes almost non-existent and happens when:
You’re constantly in output mode (doing, giving, producing) without enough input (rest, joy, nourishment).
You’re living in sympathetic nervous system dominance - in other words - fight, flight, freeze, or fawn mode.
You ignore your inner “no” until it becomes a full-body shutdown.
Your heart and your habits are heading in completely opposite directions.
The result? Energetic depletion and your soul trying to holler ‘COME BACK HOME!’.
The Symptoms: How Burnout Shows Up
Although it can make you feel like a heap on the floor… It doesn’t always look like that. Sometimes burnout is snapping at someone over something that doesnt really matter, feeling numb in moments that used to bring you joy, not being able to start the simplest tasks, wanting to be alone all the time, (and fearing being forgotten at the same time), plus let’s not forget the brain fog, apathy, dread, aches, tears, and all that tension you simply can’t release.
It masquerades as laziness, resistance, or even failure, but that’s. smokescreen. What it really is, is a deep system alert that you’re batteries are dying and you’re running on empty.
Why We Burn Ourselves Out
We do this to ourselves (mostly). Not on purpose, but from programming. Here are the parts we don’t like to talk about…
We tie our worth to productivity; “If I stop, I lose value.” So we keep going. Keep proving. Keep performing.
We fear being seen as ‘too much’ or ‘not enough.’ So we over-give, over-compensate, and over-deliver, hoping to control how we are perceived.
We’re scared of letting people down. So we say yes far too much, ignore our boundaries, and then what happens is, we quietly resent everything.
We believe we have to suffer for success. That ease is laziness, and rest is weak.
We avoid stillness because we fear what will rise when we are in it. Grief, truth, unmet needs, the mirror we don’t want to look in. Burnout keeps us too busy to FEEL.
Sound familiar?
Those most impacted by systemic inequality and bearing the weight bear of structural injustice are burned out because the have been carrying faaaar too much, and nobody has listened. Ongoing, systemic harm causes major burnout and it causes harder hustling and more spending - on the quick fixes.
So What’s The Answer?
We gotta LISTEN. Our bodies are doing exactly what they should to warn us. They are refusing to comply with the system designed to wear them down. What’s needed is permission for slow, curiosity and space to recover. The antidote is RADICAL realignment. When your life drains you, it may not be built in a way that fits your soul.
Ask yourself these questions…
What are you doing out of obligation? (rather than desire).
Where are your energy leaks?
Who would you disappoint if you had permission to do so?
Then rest calls, to reimagine your flow, not to recover and return to the same grind. At this point, you can start to build your life, business and your day-to-day back, from the nervous system up.
You don’t have to fall apart to start again. You have to allow your wisdom to come through and listen, honestly, to what’s already asking for your attention.
And only from a place of solid truth-telling can you rebuild the version of you that feels most like you.
